A small team building the butler your agents hand the pager to

UpButler is made by HootCodes LTD, a small software company in the European Union. We are the same team behind fetchlayer.dev, and like most small teams we run a lot of services with not a lot of people.

The first UpButler did what uptime tools do: ping a URL, send an email when it fails. It worked. Then the way we build software changed. More and more of our code was written and deployed by AI agents, and every new service they shipped needed someone to remember to add a monitor, put it on the status page and set up alerts. That someone was always us, a day late.

So we rebuilt UpButler around a simple idea: the agent that ships a service should be able to plug it into monitoring in the same breath. One API call creates the monitor and the status page component. An MCP server exposes everything the dashboard can do. An agent with no account can start a workspace on its own and hand its human a link to claim it.

The human side got the same attention. Incidents now come with an AI-drafted explanation and a customer-safe summary, because the hardest part of an outage is often the first update. Status pages got themes, custom domains and subscribers on the channels people actually read. And the checks got stricter about what counts as down, because an alert you learn to ignore is worse than none.

That is UpButler v2. We use it for everything we run, including our own status page.

What we hold ourselves to

1

An honest free tier

10 monitors, a status page, subscribers and 10 AI reports a month, usable by a business, with no time limit. New workspaces get 14 days of Pro first, without a card. When we change the limits, existing users hear it from us first, not from a pricing page diff.

2

No false alarms

Every alert should be worth waking up for. Failures are re-checked before anyone is paged, related failures become one incident, and every incident arrives with a first guess at what went wrong.

3

Your brand, not ours

Status pages are something your customers see on a bad day. They should look like you, live on your domain, and not advertise us more than a small footer line on Free.

4

Everything is an API

If the dashboard can do it, an agent can do it, over REST or MCP, with the same permissions and the same validation. No hidden endpoints, no screen-scraping your own tools.

Trust and security

UpButler runs on EU infrastructure. Accounts sign in without passwords, with optional two-factor that owners can make mandatory; API keys are scoped and stored as hashes; every security-relevant action lands in an audit log; and checks can never be pointed at private networks.
