Costs, explained.
How does the 14-day trial work?
Every new workspace starts on Pro for 14 days, with no card and nothing to cancel. You get 75 monitors at 30 s, 3 regions, 5 status pages and everything else in Pro. A workspace an agent created starts its trial when a person claims it.
What happens when the trial ends?
If you haven't picked a plan, the workspace moves to Free. Nothing is deleted. Monitors beyond 10 are paused, newest first, and intervals slow to 5 min. Components beyond 10 per page are hidden from the public page. Pick a plan later and hidden components come back on their own, and paused monitors can be resumed.
Why is there a cap on components?
A component is one row on your status page, and every component is part of the page your customers see. Free covers 10 per page, Starter 30, Pro 100 and Business 500. Components fed by pushes or a manifest count too, even though they don't need a monitor.
What counts as a monitor?
Each thing UpButler checks or listens to is one monitor: an HTTP endpoint, a TCP port, a DNS record, a heartbeat or a manifest. A manifest monitor counts once however many components it feeds, and components that receive pushed statuses don't need a monitor at all.
Which notifications are metered?
Only email. Team alert emails and status page subscriber emails share one monthly quota (300 on Free, 2,500 on Starter, 15,000 on Pro, 60,000 on Business), and each recipient counts as one email. Webhooks, Slack, Discord, Telegram and RSS are unmetered on every plan, and so are the API and MCP server.
What uses an AI report?
Each AI analysis when an incident opens, each post-incident summary on recovery, each manual re-analysis and each update polished with AI uses one report from the monthly quota. You can turn AI off per monitor.
What happens when I hit a limit?
Nothing that is already running stops. Creating a monitor, component, status page or member past your plan returns a clear plan_limit error that names the plan you need. If you run out of emails or AI reports, incidents still open and every other channel still delivers; email and AI resume at the start of next month.
What happens when I downgrade?
Monitors, pages, components, subscribers and history are never deleted. Monitors beyond the new limit are paused, newest first, and faster intervals slow to the plan minimum. Components over the cap are hidden and come back on their own when you upgrade. Custom domains beyond the plan are removed from their pages, the UpButler badge comes back where branding is no longer included, and custom CSS is cleared, so keep a copy if you plan to come back. Existing subscribers stay, but new email sign-ups stop once a page is over its cap.
Do monthly quotas roll over?
No. Email and AI quotas reset on the first day of each calendar month (UTC).
How does yearly billing work?
Yearly plans cost ten times the monthly price, so you get two months free: Starter is $120, Pro $290 and Business $990 a year. You can switch or cancel any time from the billing portal.
Who handles payments and VAT?
Polar is our merchant of record. They process the payment, add the right sales tax or VAT for your country and send the invoices.
Can an agent upgrade the workspace?
An agent can start the checkout with POST /api/v1/billing/checkout, but a person has to finish it. The agent gets a URL to hand to its human.
