The UpButler bot

If your logs show requests with the user agent UpButler/2.0 (+https://upbutler.com/bot), someone who uses UpButler has set up an uptime monitor for that URL. Usually that is you or a teammate; sometimes it is a customer watching a service they depend on.

The bot requests exactly the URLs it was given, on a fixed schedule (every 30 seconds at the fastest), and once more shortly after a failed check to confirm it. It is not a crawler: apart from redirects it does not follow links, and it does not index content or read robots.txt, because it never discovers URLs on its own. It reads at most 512 KB of a response, and it does not reach private or internal addresses.

Checks come from our regions in the European Union (Helsinki, Nuremberg, Falkenstein and Lauterbourg). A firewall or bot filter that blocks them makes the monitor report the service as down, so allow this user agent if the monitor is yours.

Not yours, and you want it to stop? Write to [email protected] with the host name and we will look into it.
