Get started
Quickstart
From sign-up to a live status page that updates itself, in about five minutes. No credit card needed.
1. Sign up
Go to upbutler.com/login and enter your email. We email you a 6-digit code and a magic link, so there is no password to remember. Your first sign-in creates a personal workspace with 14 days of Pro, free and without a card: 75 monitors checked every 30 seconds, 5 status pages and 1,000 AI incident reports a month. After that it moves to the Free plan (10 monitors checked every 5 minutes, 1 status page, 10 AI reports a month) unless you pick a plan. Nothing is deleted; see Plans & billing.
2. Add a monitor
In the dashboard, open Monitors and create a new monitor. For a website or API, the URL is all you need:
- Name: what your team calls it, such as “Search API”.
- URL: the endpoint to check, ideally a health route such as
https://api.example.com/health. - Optional: an expected status range (default
200-299), a keyword the body must contain, a latency threshold, or a TLS expiry warning.
The first check runs right away. A monitor only turns down after 2 consecutive failed checks (configurable), and UpButler re-checks within 15 seconds to confirm, so short network blips don't alert you. For cron jobs and background workers, pick the Heartbeat kind instead. Your job pings UpButler, and you get alerted when the pings stop. See Heartbeats.
3. Publish a status page
Open Status pages, create a page, give it a name and a slug, then add components:
- Create a group, such as “APIs”.
- Add a component and link it to the monitor from step 2. The component now follows the monitor:
upshows as Operational anddownas Major outage. - Pick a theme (Midnight, Grid, Daylight or Paper) and an accent color.
Your page is live at https://upbutler.com/s/<slug>. With automatic incidents on (the default), an outage opens a public incident with a clear customer-facing message and resolves it on recovery. Visitors can subscribe by email, webhook, Slack, Discord or RSS. Every page is also live at https://<slug>.upbutler.com; your own domain comes with Starter and up as custom domains roll out. See Status pages.
4. Get alerted
Add an alert channel for wherever your team should hear about problems: email, Slack, Discord, Telegram or a signed webhook. New channels are default channels. They attach to every existing monitor and to every monitor you create later. Send a test notification to check the channel works.
You'll get monitor.down (with the AI analysis when available), monitor.up with the downtime duration, and monitor.degraded. While an outage lasts, “still down” reminders go out at 30, 120 and 480 minutes by default. See Alert channels.
5. Hand it to your agents (optional)
Create an API key in the dashboard settings (/app/settings/api-keys). Set its agent name so the agent's actions are attributed in incident timelines. Then connect your coding agent through MCP, or call the REST API directly. Agents can add services, report incidents they detect, push component statuses and subscribe to other companies' status pages.
